Dwayne Smith was born in 1956 in Colorado, USA, and has degrees in composition and conducting from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has studied jazz, concert music, electronic music, and early music, among many things. Some of his teachers have been John Adams, Andrew Imbrie, Alden Jenks, Pandit Pran Nath (at Mills College), Laurette Goldberg, Elinor Armer, and others. Though music has been a love since childhood, he is also fascinated by visual arts and dance (modern and not-so-modern).

The idea of Polymedia is “Many media, one art” – where for instance, music isn’t added to video or visuals are added to music: they come into being together as one. Think of Richard Wagner’s gesamtkunstwerk (all encompassing art), but for a digital age. There’s something wonderful happening at the intersection of Art and Technology and that’s where I’m exploring and creating.
